Stainless steel sinks are also very popular, especially with professional cooks, even though copper sinks - infamously the farmhouse style - are gaining in attractiveness, at least in part due to the appealing warmth of the all natural patina copper develops since it ages. Kitchen sinks made of artist materials, though not yet just as well-known as copper, stainless and stone, are all for the upswing. Examples are fireclay kitchen sinks, which are often made in the farm style, and tossed concrete sinks. Cast cement in particular allows the designer to create an amazing array of types: single well, double very well, trough, combined sink and draining board units, kitchen countertops with integrated sinks as well as the farm style, along with unusual shapes. This more recent material brings one more component into the design mix - the green kitchen sink. By merging recycled materials with the concrete, artisans can lessen both environmental impact and the excess weight of the finished sink.
